The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has started an exercise to ease the approval process for satellite-based broadband services. This move will give relief to companies preparing to launch satellite based broadband and other services in the country. One of these companies is Starlink, whose parent company is SpaceX. Its owner is the world's richest billionaire Elon Musk. Apart from this, Bharti Group-backed OneWeb is also a big broadband company. 

The Department of Telecommunications had given a warning:

Recently, the Department of Telecommunications had issued an advisory regarding Starlink. Accordingly, Starlink Internet Services does not have a license to provide satellite based Internet services in India. The government had asked for an immediate ban on booking or rendering of satellite internet services in India.

Earlier this month, Starlink country director Sanjay Bhargava said they would apply for a commercial license by early 2022 to provide broadband and other services. The companies are exploring tie-up with telecom companies in India for broadband services in the country.
